Color of the Year 2024: Peach Fuzz

Peach Fuzz is a peachy tone nestled between pink and orange with a hint of the past, but it’s been adapted to find a place in today’s modern age. The sophisticated color, which will become a palette leader in 2024, was chosen to elegantly bring humanity to the digital world and refresh it with its romanticism. “It also needs to be a warm and welcoming color, ” said the Pantone Institute’s Vice President of Colour of the Year 2024.

As in the past, the color reflects global events and tries, not only for designers, to inspire new ideas that will lighten everyday problems with their aesthetics. Peach Fuzz encourages us to pause in the relentless cycle of life and look into our souls to find empathy and understanding.

To make 2024 easier to walk through and find all the positive qualities that the color has brought, we can surround ourselves with various objects or furniture in Peach Fuzz. The Pantone Institute has also considered the versatility of the color, which can be used in any way you can think of.

Peach color will stand out on walls or interior accessories we want to reach for and surround ourselves with their softness. The color will no doubt show up in the work of graphic designers and has even made its way into cosmetics and accessories. It has also found its place in fashion, and many clothing designers have used the color in their Spring 2024 collections.

For over 20 years, the Pantone Institute has shown us all sorts of shades and their impact, not only in visual language. So, let’s not be afraid to surround ourselves with this pleasant color next year and bet on humanity. In some parts of the world, life is not easy today. So, let’s be inspired by the message of Peach Fuzz and strive to make the world a better place in 2024.

History of the color of the year

The Pantone Colour Institute introduced the first color of the year at the beginning of the millennium. It was Cerulean Blue, a shade that represented the image of the sky on a clear day and evoked a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

For the next 23 years, we guessed which color deserved this prestigious title. We only sometimes hit on the correct shade, and even if you don’t remember the names of the most recent winners, reminisce with us about the winning colors of the past few years.

An overview of the last colors of the year

In 2017, a lush green called Greenery reigned supreme, symbolizing new beginnings. A year later, the Pantone Color Institute delighted fans of purple shades. The year’s color for 2018 was the dramatic, provocative, and thoughtful shade Ultra Violet, representing originality, ingenuity, and visions for the future. 2019 was marked by a vibrant color called Living Coral, where you could even see a golden undertone that added energy and brought softening.

An endless evening sky and a world full of possibilities. This is precisely what the 2020 winning color, Classic Blue, evokes—2021 brought an extraordinary color of the year, created by mixing two shades, Illuminating and Ultimate Grey. This has only happened twice in history. Ultimate Gray evokes feelings of serenity, stability, and resilience. This versatile shade is reminiscent of the pebbles on your favorite beach and other natural elements that have stood the test of time and aging. In contrast, they set the bright and cheerful yellow of Illuminating. This warming shade is brimming with solar energy.

In 2022, the Very Peri shade took the pedestal. This is a dynamic blue shade with a reviving violet-red hue. It evokes a futuristic feel, ingenuity, and creativity. Very Pery Color combines the energy from blue and borrows passion from red. It also boasts that it is the first ever new shade created by the company to celebrate the announcement of the year’s color.

Last year, Viva Magenta replaced the color of the year. At first glance, this color may have seemed assertive, but the opposite was true. Viva Magenta expressed new strength, self-expression, and uninhibited experimentation. This color was not a random choice. It also reflected the current uneasy events in the world in 2023.

We have already hinted above that this shade for 2023 was not accidental. When choosing, we always try to find a link between color and culture. As a result, the color chosen always reflects global culture and specific current or historical moments. When considering the year’s color, the institute focuses on exploring different areas and industries, from the entertainment industry to technology, socio-economic factors, and predictions for the future.

Last year, an emphasis on nature won out in their research. Increasingly, we are bringing home new flowers, discovering the joy of moving in nature, and, after a pandemic hiatus, beginning to travel and explore the world around us again.

In Viva Magenta, you will also discover an emotional component. According to the Pantone Institute, this shade harmonizes boldness with fun and confidence with humanity. They liken it to how digitalization has contributed to faster globalization, allowing us to connect with others and deepen our empathy.

For more than two decades, Pantone has succeeded in taking color to a whole new level and highlighting its influence in visual language. They have taught us to look at color shades differently and that every color has its own story and power. They set trends in the fashion or advertising industry and technology parks yearly.
